What is considered a “Classic” Auto?
Insurance companies define “Classic” autos in different ways, but in general they are vehicles that are over 25 years old and are considered “muscle” or “exotic” cars. Some companies require the vehicle to be older than 10 years. Classic auto insurance policies may also be able to cover vehicles with the following criteria:
· Modern muscle cars
· Exotic cars of all years
· Vehicles with modified higher performance engines or suspension
· Vehicles with modified bodies
Auto Insurance vs Classic Auto Insurance
One of the biggest differences between classic and regular auto insurance is classic policies take into consideration that these vehicles are rare and not something driven on a daily basis, so they are based on the value of the car. Classic auto insurance is, however, made of some of the same coverages as auto insurance. These coverages include:
· Medical Payments
· Uninsured Motorist

How is the value of a classic car determined for insurance?
The value that you feel is accurate, along with photos of the vehicle, are sent into the insurance company and then an agreed value is reached by you and the insurance team.
Are there any rules for a Classic Auto Policy?
Classic Auto insurance is different than your regular car insurance policy in that it takes into consideration the higher value and rarity of classic vehicles. Therefore, classic auto policies have restrictions that may not appear on regular car insurance policies. Some of these restrictions may include:
· Limited mileage that could be tracked each year
· An alternate car or vehicle to be used as your “daily driver”
· Must be stored in a garage that is enclosed and locks when not in use
Some things to consider with classic auto coverage:
Some companies give discounts for having lower mileage/use in a year.
